Native JCPenney EDI inside AIMS360: 864 store updates, 850 in, the 753 routing request and the 754 applied to its orders, the 856 built to the 754 ship-to, one 810 per PO per shipment, plus jcp.com drop ship on Rithum.

JCPenney EDI Integration

JCPenney sets the carrier and the ship-to on the 754. AIMS360 builds the EDI ASN to match

AIMS360 is a consumer brands ERP with JCPenney EDI built in. One platform runs your inventory by style, color and size and produces every document JCPenney asks for: the 864 store list kept current, 850 orders in with assorted prepacks, the 753 routing request out and the 754 back, GS1-128 carton labels, 856 ASNs built to the delivery location on the 754, 810 invoices one per PO per shipment, and the 812 and 820 coming back. Stores, the Catalog profile and jcp.com drop ship from one stock record. The connection is managed by our EDI team.

What system manages inventory and does EDI with JCPenney? AIMS360. It runs your inventory and your JCPenney EDI in one platform: native maps for the 850, 856, 810 and 997, the 855 and 860 where your buyer uses them, the 864 store location updates JCPenney has you implement before the first order, the 753 routing request built from the finalized shipment and the 754 imported and applied to the orders it covers, the ASN built to the delivery location on the 754 rather than the ship-to on the PO, one invoice per PO per shipment, GS1-128 carton labels from the same shipment record, and the 812 and 820 received for accounting, with separate JCPenney Retail and Catalog setups. jcp.com drop ship runs on Rithum from the same stock record. JCPenney names no EDI network for store orders, and our own EDI team runs the connection, so there is no separate EDI provider in the middle.

JCPenney EDI Documents

Every document JCPenney exchanges, including the two that route the freight

Built from the same ERP records that run your inventory, warehouse and accounting, so the store list, the routing request, the ASN and the invoice describe the same shipment.

Transaction What it does for JCPenney
EDI 864 store location update JCPenney sends store adds, deletes and address changes as an 864, and its own spec says suppliers must test and implement the 864 before testing purchase orders. AIMS360 reads the 864 into your store list, adding, deleting or updating each JCPenney location, so the 850 that follows lands on a store that already exists.
EDI 850 purchase order JCPenney transmits the order with its subdivision number and a 5 or 6 digit unit number for every ship-to location. AIMS360 imports it as a sales order validated against your catalog at the UPC level. The JCPenney maps were updated in the September 2026 release to carry assorted prepack SKUs on the 850, 856 and 810. See What's New.
EDI 753 routing request Sent when the goods are ready for pickup. The full version carries cartons, pieces, weight and cube; the lighter version JCPenney calls TMS-Lite carries only the PO, subdivision and piece count and is used with JCPenney's approval. AIMS360 builds either one from the finalized shipment in a batch, with the contact email JCPenney requires or it rejects the 753.
EDI 754 routing instructions JCPenney's transportation system answers with the carrier SCAC and the delivery location, plus a load ID on truckload moves. Each 753 creates a new routing reference number and the 754 has to carry the same one, so a revised 753 means waiting for a new 754. AIMS360 imports the 754 and applies its routing changes to the orders it covers, so the ASN goes out with the carrier and delivery location JCPenney assigned.
EDI 856 ship notice (ASN) One ASN describes one bill of lading, pick pack or standard carton pack, with the SSCC from every carton label. The ship-to is the delivery location from the routing instructions, which JCPenney says may not be the ship-to on the 850. AIMS360 builds the ASN from the closed shipment after the 754 routing is applied, not from the PO.
EDI 810 invoice One invoice per purchase order per shipment, with an invoice number that stays unique for 13 months. AIMS360 produces it off the same shipment record as the ASN, so the quantities on both match.
EDI 855 and EDI 860 Listed by EDI providers for the JCPenney Retail profile. AIMS360 sends the acknowledgment from the order record and applies a PO change to the open order where your buyer uses them.
EDI 812 and EDI 820 JCPenney sends adjustments on the 812 with more than 50 reason codes, and remittance on the 820 by EFT, three times a month in its 2006 spec. AIMS360 imports the 812 against the invoice it references, and receives the 820 so accounting applies the payment with each deduction reason in view.
EDI 997 acknowledgment Listed for JCPenney in a 2015 EDI Academy guide; JCPenney's own requirement is not published. AIMS360 generates the outbound 997 on receipt.
GS1-128 carton label A unique GS1-128 label with an SSCC on every carton, matching the ASN. AIMS360 prints it from the JCPenney label template on the trading partner, from the same shipment record as the 753 and the ASN.

Vendor Requirements

What JCPenney actually requires from a vendor

JCPenney keeps its supplier guides, routing guide and label pages behind the vendor.jcpenney.com login, and the EDI specifications it has published on the open web date from 2006. The rules below come from those JCPenney specs, from the public EDI page of its vendor portal, from a compliance vendor's summary of JCPenney's October 2022 label and packaging documents, from JCPenney's circa 2017 drop ship overview, and from our own JCPenney setup documentation. Each row says which. Confirm every number with your buyer or in the portal before you plan a shipment around it.

Requirement What JCPenney expects, as reported
Vendor portal The portal is vendor.jcpenney.com. Its public EDI Guidelines page lists the EDI trading partner lookup, forms, the EDI request form, 852 data summarization, EFT setup and the .com import supplier manual, plus a contact for the JCPenney EDI team. The shipping and label pages sit behind the login.
EDI network JCPenney says a vendor must be EDI capable or engage a third-party EDI service provider. It names no network for store EDI. Its public specs are VICS 4030, with the 864 in 3060, so the version in use today is confirmed in testing.
Store master first JCPenney's 864 spec says suppliers must test and implement the 864 before testing purchase orders, with three test transmissions on consecutive days. Locations are 5 or 6 digit unit numbers.
Routing JCPenney's transportation system routes the freight. The vendor sends a 753 when goods are ready; JCPenney answers with a 754 naming the carrier and the delivery location, plus a load ID on truckload moves. Under TMS-Lite, JCPenney's 2006 753 and 754 specs let the 753 go the same day as shipment or up to two business days before, and say a supplier is not authorized to ship without a 754.
ASN timing From the 2006 856 spec: sent immediately on release to the carrier and present at JCPenney before 2:00 AM Central time the morning after shipment. One ASN per bill of lading, built to the delivery location on the routing instructions.
Invoice JCPenney's 2006 810 spec calls for one invoice per purchase order per shipment, invoice numbers unique within 13 months, and payments three times a month.
Carton label As reported by RetailerHub from JCPenney's October 20, 2022 label placement requirements: a 4 by 6 inch GS1-128 label in the lower right quadrant, its bottom edge 1.25 inches from the carton bottom and at least 0.75 inch from the vertical edge. Pallet labels on the front and back.
Cartons As reported from the same October 2022 guidelines: at least 9 by 9 by 2 inches, no larger than 36 by 27 by 30 inches, no heavier than 40 pounds, and at least 2 pounds for store shipments.
Pallets 48 by 40 inches, no taller than 36 inches, with different SKUs or POs on one pallet physically separated, as reported from JCPenney's beauty supplier requirements. Confirm the spec for your category with the buyer.
Hangers and floor ready Mainetti publishes a JCPenney approved hanger program, dated 2015 and marked subject to change, for men's, women's and juniors, and children's, infants and toddlers. Floor ready and ticketing rules come from your buyer and are not public.
Logistics network JCPenney's careers site, undated, describes a network of nine facilities across store distribution centers, regional warehouses, jcp.com fulfillment centers and furniture distribution centers. It put $40 million into the Reno, Nevada jcp.com fulfillment center in 2024, and closed the Haslet, Texas regional logistics center in late 2025 after a June 2025 layoff notice. The delivery location on the 754 governs every shipment.
Payment terms Net 90 for international merchandise vendors and home vendors from May 1, 2024, per a CFO letter reported by WarrensReport. Terms for other categories come from your buyer. Remittance arrives on the 820 by EFT.
Chargebacks No fee schedule is published. JCPenney's circa 2017 drop ship overview calls its penalties offsets, such as a late shipping compliance offset, and its 812 spec lists more than 50 adjustment reasons, from pricing error and item not received to advertising and markdown allowances. Fill rate thresholds and the dispute window are not public.
RFID The last public JCPenney statement, from January 2013, limited vendor RFID tagging to shoes, bras, fashion jewelry and men's and women's denim. No current mandate is published, so ask your buyer.
The JCPenney rule that catches brands coming from other department stores is the routing. JCPenney's own transportation system picks the carrier, and it can send the freight to a location other than the ship-to on the PO. You send a 753 when the goods are ready, JCPenney answers with a 754 that names the carrier and the delivery location, and the ASN has to describe that delivery, one ASN per bill of lading. Resend a 753 and you get a new routing reference, so the old 754 no longer matches. AIMS360 builds the 753 from the finalized shipment, imports the 754 and applies its routing to the orders it covers, and builds the ASN and the invoice from the same record.

JCPenney EDI Workflow

From store list to paid invoice

One loop, one system, and a routing step in the middle that decides where the freight goes.

Step What happens
1. Store list The 864 arrives with JCPenney store adds, deletes and address changes, and AIMS360 applies them to your store list before the first order, the order JCPenney's own spec asks for.
2. Order arrives The 850 becomes a sales order validated at the UPC level, on the Retail or Catalog account, with the unit number resolved to a store and assorted prepack SKUs carried as ordered.
3. Acknowledge The 997 goes back on receipt. If your buyer uses the 855, it goes back from the order record, and an 860 change is applied to the open order.
4. Pick and pack The built-in warehouse module packs to the JCPenney carton limits and prints a GS1-128 label for every carton from the shipment record.
5. Routing request The 753 goes out from the finalized shipment, the full version with cartons, weight and cube, or TMS-Lite with PO, subdivision and pieces where JCPenney approved it.
6. Routing instructions The 754 comes back with the carrier and the delivery location, and AIMS360 imports it and applies the routing to the orders on the shipment, keyed by the routing reference.
7. ASN The 856 goes out as the carrier leaves, one per bill of lading, carrying the delivery location from the 754 and the SSCC of every carton.
8. Invoice and remittance The 810 goes out one per PO per shipment, and the 812 and 820 come back so accounting applies the payment against the same invoices.

Native vs Bolted On

Do you need SPS Commerce or TrueCommerce for JCPenney?

Short answer, no. JCPenney names no network for store orders, and drop ship runs on Rithum, which AIMS360 connects to directly.

Native to the ERP

AIMS360

The store list, the order, the 753, the 754, the carton labels, the ASN and the invoice all live on one record, so the routing reference, the delivery location and the carton count agree on every document. The 864 store update is built in for JCPenney.

Our EDI team runs the connection, the testing and the maps. JCPenney names no network for store orders, so you do not need one.

Bolted on

A separate EDI provider

Put an EDI network in front of an ERP with no native EDI and the 753, the 754 and the ASN sit in a portal apart from the shipment record, so the ASN can go out to the PO ship-to because that is the address the ERP knows.

And when JCPenney reroutes the freight, somebody has to carry the change from the portal back to the shipment by hand.

JCPenney Programs

Stores, Catalog, jcp.com drop ship and the marketplace

Four ways a JCPenney order can reach you, and the company behind them.

Program 01

Store orders, the Retail profile

Purchase orders for JCPenney stores, routed by JCPenney's transportation system through the 753 and 754, with the 864 keeping the store list current. In AIMS360 the Retail account holds the store list exported from the vendor site's store and facility locator, with the distribution center JCPenney calls an SSC on each store and secondary centers set up as their own locations.

Program 02

The Catalog profile

JCPenney still runs a separate Catalog trading partner, which EDI providers now list as eCom, shipping into JCPenney's own logistics centers with dock ship-to addresses and separate bill-to codes. AIMS360 sets it up as its own master account, and EDI providers list the 869 order status inquiry and the 870 reply for this profile, so we confirm at setup whether your account uses them.

Program 03

jcp.com drop ship on Rithum

Vendor drop ship for jcp.com runs through Rithum, formerly CommerceHub, on the 850, 846, 856 and 810, as current EDI directories list it. JCPenney's drop ship overview, circa 2017, named CommerceHub or SPS Commerce as the platform and asks for orders shipped complete within 1 business day, inventory sent twice each business day at least 4 hours apart, a packing slip JCPenney has approved, and JCPenney's third-party billing accounts. AIMS360 runs the Rithum connection from the same stock record as your store orders.

Program 04

JC Penney Marketplace

JCPenney launched a third-party marketplace on jcpenney.com in 2026, reported by Retail Dive as going live late in its second quarter. It is a seller program, not vendor drop ship, and no public source we found names the platform that runs it. If you are invited, our team confirms how those orders reach AIMS360 before you list.

One thing to keep straight: JCPenney is private and part of Catalyst Brands, formed January 8, 2025 when JCPenney merged with SPARC Group, with Simon Property Group, Brookfield, Authentic Brands Group and Shein as shareholders at its formation. Catalyst is based in Plano, Texas and run by CEO Marc Rosen, with Michelle Wlazlo as CEO of the JCPenney brand. JCPenney had about 640 stores in September 2026, per TheStreet, and fiscal 2025 net sales of about $6.0 billion, per Retail Dive.

One Stock Record

Hundreds of store orders, one stock record

A JCPenney program is hundreds of store orders routed by JCPenney's carrier, plus a Catalog account and possibly jcp.com drop ship, all drawing on the same stock. The useful number is not what you have in total, it is what you can ship against each routing request without shorting the next one.

Situation What AIMS360 does
Hundreds of store orders The 864 keeps every JCPenney unit number current, so each 850 resolves to a real store and allocation runs across the whole release at the size level before anything is routed.
Assorted prepacks The prepack SKU on the 850 maps to the sizes and units inside it, and the ASN and invoice carry it back the way JCPenney ordered it. See case packs and prepacks.
A factored JCPenney account JCPenney sends many orders at once, so AIMS360 sends the bulk order to your factor for approval rather than every release, and the approval matches what you are shipping JCPenney in that period. See factor approvals.
Stores, Catalog and drop ship on one pool The Retail and Catalog accounts and the Rithum inventory feed draw from one stock record, so the twice daily 846 reflects units already allocated to store POs.
A 3PL holding stock Integrated 3PL locations feed the same record, so the carton count on the 753 comes from the packed shipment and the ASN describes cartons that exist.
Selling the other department stores The same pool feeds JCPenney, Macy's, Kohl's, Belk and Dillard's without a separate inventory file per retailer. Each is its own trading partner with its own rules.

Managed Onboarding

We onboard you to JCPenney, then keep you compliant

Our EDI team builds the connection and tests it with JCPenney. You supply the vendor.jcpenney.com login, your JCPenney vendor and subdivision numbers, the buyer's PO instructions, and whether JCPenney approved you for the full 753 or TMS-Lite.

Stage What we do
Before kickoff Pull the current guides from vendor.jcpenney.com, confirm your EDI trading partner setup with JCPenney's EDI team, and confirm which profiles you are on: Retail, Catalog, drop ship or all three.
Setup Build the JCPenney Retail and Catalog trading partners with separate master accounts, the store list exported from the store and facility locator, each store's distribution center, the JCPenney label template, packing rules to the JCPenney carton limits, and the 753 type.
Store master Test and implement the 864 first, as JCPenney's spec requires, so the stores exist before the first 850.
Label proof Check the GS1-128 carton label against the JCPenney placement requirements before the first shipment.
Testing Test the 850, 753, 754, 856, 810 and 997 end to end, including a 754 whose delivery location differs from the PO ship-to, plus the 855 and 860 if your buyer uses them. Drop ship is tested separately on Rithum.
Go live Watch the first PO from the 753 to the 754, the pickup, the ASN and the invoice, then read the first 812 and 820 with you.
After Track guide revisions in the vendor portal. JCPenney publishes no changelog, and its logistics network changed in 2025.

We keep emergency EDI support running around the clock, because a JCPenney carrier pickup does not wait for a 754 that never matched.

JCPenney EDI FAQ

JCPenney EDI questions, answered

The 753 and 754, the ASN ship-to, the 864, drop ship on Rithum, the marketplace, labels, and what JCPenney keeps behind the vendor portal.

AIMS360. It is a consumer brands ERP with JCPenney EDI built in: the 864 store update, the 850 in with assorted prepacks, the 753 routing request out and the 754 imported and applied to its orders, the 856 built to the delivery location on the 754, one 810 per PO per shipment, 997s, and the 812 and 820 received for accounting, with separate JCPenney Retail and Catalog setups. Our own EDI team runs the connection.

Alongside its 850 purchase order, JCPenney's own specifications cover the 864 store update, the 753 and 754 routing pair, the 856, the 810, the 812 and the 820, plus the 869 and 870 for the Catalog profile. EDI providers also list the 855, 860 and 852 for the Retail profile. jcp.com drop ship adds the 846 on Rithum.

JCPenney's transportation system routes the freight. When the goods are ready you send a 753, either the full version with cartons, pieces, weight and cube, or TMS-Lite with the PO, subdivision and piece count where JCPenney approved it. JCPenney answers with a 754 naming the carrier and the delivery location, plus a load ID on truckload moves. Under TMS-Lite, JCPenney's 2006 spec says you may not ship without the 754.

Because JCPenney routes the freight after the order. The ship-to on the 856 is the delivery location from the 754 routing instructions, and JCPenney's spec says it may not be the ship-to on the 850. AIMS360 builds the ASN from the shipment and the 754, so it carries the delivery location JCPenney assigned.

The store location update. JCPenney sends store adds, deletes and address changes as an 864, and its spec says suppliers must test and implement it before testing purchase orders. AIMS360 applies each change to your JCPenney store list, and invalid stores are rejected rather than loaded.

Not for store orders. JCPenney says a vendor must be EDI capable or use a third-party EDI service provider, and names no network. AIMS360 connects to JCPenney directly or through the VAN you already use, with our own EDI team running the maps, and runs jcp.com drop ship on Rithum.

Yes. Vendor drop ship for jcp.com runs through Rithum, formerly CommerceHub, on the 850, 846, 856 and 810. JCPenney's circa 2017 overview asks for orders shipped complete within 1 business day, inventory twice each business day, an approved packing slip, JCPenney's third-party billing accounts, and returns to its Lenexa, Kansas logistics center. Confirm the current rules with your buyer.

No. JCPenney launched a third-party marketplace on jcpenney.com in 2026, where sellers list their own products. Vendor drop ship is JCPenney buying and selling your product with you shipping it. No public source we found names the platform that runs the marketplace.

As reported by RetailerHub from JCPenney's October 2022 guidelines: a 4 by 6 inch GS1-128 label in the lower right quadrant of the carton, cartons from 9 by 9 by 2 to 36 by 27 by 30 inches, no heavier than 40 pounds, and pallet labels front and back. Every carton's SSCC has to match the ASN.

JCPenney publishes no fee schedule. Its circa 2017 drop ship overview calls its penalties offsets, and it sends adjustments on the 812 with more than 50 reason codes. Fill rate thresholds and the dispute window are not published, so ask your buyer. AIMS360 keeps the 753, 754, ASN, label data and invoice on one record, which is what a dispute needs.

At vendor.jcpenney.com. Its public EDI Guidelines page covers the trading partner lookup, EDI forms, EFT setup and the .com import supplier manual, and lists the JCPenney EDI team at EDI9900@jcpenney.com. The shipping, label and supplier guides sit behind the login.

No current vendor RFID mandate is published. JCPenney's last public statement, from January 2013, limited tagging to shoes, bras, fashion jewelry and men's and women's denim. Ask your buyer before the first order; AIMS360 prints RFID enabled tickets where a retailer requires them.

JCPenney is part of Catalyst Brands, formed in January 2025 when JCPenney merged with SPARC Group, with Simon Property Group, Brookfield, Authentic Brands Group and Shein as shareholders at its formation. It is based in Plano, Texas, led by Catalyst CEO Marc Rosen and JCPenney brand CEO Michelle Wlazlo, and had about 640 stores in September 2026.

We do. The maps belong to us, so a revision is our work rather than a project for your team. The JCPenney maps were updated in September 2026 for assorted prepack SKUs, and JCPenney changed its logistics network in 2025, so we check the guides with you before every season.
