Bealls EDI, and which Bealls you actually mean

There were two American retailers called Bealls, unrelated, in different states, for most of a century. One of them liquidated in 2020 and the other one bought its name. If a buyer just handed you a Bealls purchase order, this page tells you exactly which company you are dealing with, what its banners are, and how AIMS360 runs the EDI behind it from the same record as your other retail accounts.

The short answer

How does AIMS360 integrate with Bealls?

AIMS360 connects to Bealls natively over EDI, as part of the ERP rather than a separate subscription. Bealls today means Bealls Inc. of Bradenton, Florida, the family owned retailer behind the bealls off-price chain, the Bealls Florida department stores, and Home Centric. Purchase orders, acknowledgments, ASNs and invoices move between Bealls and the same order and inventory record that runs your other retail accounts, with GS1-128 carton labels and the ASN produced from the same scan.

The reason this page spends time on the name is that the name genuinely causes problems. Old routing guides, old vendor spreadsheets and old EDI setups still float around referring to a Bealls that no longer exists, and to a Burkes Outlet that is now called something else. Sorting that out before you configure anything is cheaper than sorting it out at the DC.

Disambiguation

Two companies, one name: the actual sequence

Worth being precise, because most of the internet is not, and a wrong assumption here means pointing your EDI at a company that stopped existing in 2020.

When What happened
1915 Robert M. Beall Sr. opens the first store in Bradenton, Florida. The company stays family owned from then on.
The century after A completely unrelated Texas retailer, also called Bealls, grows across the Southwest and eventually becomes part of Stage Stores of Houston, alongside Palais Royal, Peebles, Goody's and Gordmans. Two companies, one name, no relation.
The workaround years Because of the name clash, the Florida company held rights to the Bealls name only in Florida, Georgia and Arizona. Its off-price stores everywhere else traded as Burkes Outlet. If you ever wondered why Burkes existed, this is the whole reason.
May 2020 Stage Stores files Chapter 11 and liquidates. The Texas Bealls closes with it, along with the other Stage banners.
October 2020 Bealls Inc. buys Stage Stores' intellectual property, including nationwide rights to the Bealls name, plus a 435,000 square foot distribution center in Jacksonville, Texas, for a reported $7 million.
4 April 2023 With the name unlocked, the rebrand: every Bealls Outlet and Burkes Outlet becomes bealls, roughly 600 stores under one banner, and the Florida department stores become Bealls Florida. New signage completed by the end of 2023.
Today One company. Bealls Inc., Bradenton, family owned, more than 650 stores across four banners.
The practical version: any document about Bealls of Texas, Stage Stores, Palais Royal, Peebles, Goody's or Gordmans describes a company that liquidated in 2020. Any current Bealls relationship is with Bealls Inc. of Florida, whichever state your buyer sits in. And a reference to Burkes Outlet is not out of date so much as renamed: those stores are still there, trading as bealls.
One company, four doors

The four Bealls Inc. banners

A vendor conversation with Bealls can mean different programs with different buying behavior. Know which door your goods are walking through.

Banner What it is
bealls The off-price chain, lower case on purpose, formed in 2023 from Bealls Outlet and Burkes Outlet. Roughly 600 stores at the rebrand and the company's engine for competing with TJ Maxx, Marshalls and Ross. Off-price buying behaves differently from department store buying, which is why it has its own page.
Bealls Florida The original department store business, 68 stores at the rebrand, all in Florida. Seasonal apparel assortments, coastal and Florida lifestyle categories, and a classic department store vendor relationship.
Home Centric The home decor concept, launched in May 2018, run both as standalone stores and as departments inside bealls locations.
Rugged Earth Outfitters The outdoor apparel banner, the smallest of the four.
The department store

Selling Bealls Florida

Bealls Florida is a planned assortment business. Buyers work seasons in advance, orders are written against a plan, and the vendor relationship looks like any regional department store: purchase orders by door or to the DC, ship windows that matter, carton level GS1-128 labeling, and an invoice that has to match what was received.

Florida seasonality is its own thing

The selling calendar does not look like a northern department store's. Resort, swim and warm weather categories run long, and holiday tourist traffic changes what reorders look like. Your allocation plan should know that.

Style, color and size on every document

Apparel orders arrive as a matrix, and the UPC per size has to be right everywhere it appears: the purchase order, the carton, the ASN, the invoice. AIMS360 treats the size and color matrix as native data rather than a flat SKU list.

One relationship, maybe two programs

A brand can sell Bealls Florida and the bealls off-price chain at the same time, and plenty do: planned assortments through one door, end of season and opportunistic buys through the other. Same parent, different economics, one stock record underneath.

The invoice is the scorecard

Chargebacks in this relationship mostly come from mismatches: carton contents versus ASN, ASN versus invoice, invoice versus PO. Every one of those is prevented by generating the documents from what was actually scanned, which is the whole argument for EDI living inside the ERP.

Documents

The Bealls EDI document set

From published Bealls EDI partner listings. Treat this as the shape of the relationship, and let the vendor guide issued to your account decide the specifics per program.

Document What it does on a Bealls program
850 Purchase order, listed in the required core. On Bealls Florida it is a planned assortment order. On bealls it is more often a large opportunistic buy.
810 Invoice, required. Matched against the order and the receipt before payment, which is why it should be generated from what shipped rather than typed.
997 Functional acknowledgment, required. The document that confirms a file arrived and parsed, and whose absence is your first warning.
856 Advance ship notice, in the supported set. Off-price and department store DCs generally want the ASN with GS1-128 cartons, so treat "supported" as "expect it" and confirm in your guide.
855 / 860 Acknowledgment and PO change, supported. Off-price buys move fast, so changes happen and the 860 is worth wiring up.
864 / 820 Text messages and remittance advice, supported. The 820 closes the loop on what was actually paid against which invoices.
The pattern worth noticing: the required core is the money path, order in, invoice out, receipt confirmed. Everything else exists to keep the physical flow honest. A vendor who wires up only the required three and skips the ASN is choosing to find out about problems at receiving instead of before the truck leaves.
In AIMS360

Bealls on the same record as everything else

Native EDI, no middleware

The Bealls connection is part of AIMS360, not a separate subscription, and AIMS360 charges no per document or per kilocharacter fees of its own. See native EDI.

Orders in one queue

Bealls orders land in order management beside your other retailers, wholesale and DTC, instead of in a mailbox somebody checks.

Label and ASN from one scan

The GS1-128 carton label and the 856 come from the same scan, so the carton and the file cannot drift apart.

Allocation decides, not luck

When a Bealls Florida order and an off-price buy want the same units, allocation rules settle it deliberately.

Your 3PL can ship it

A third party 3PL maps to a real location, so the ASN and tracking come from wherever the freight actually left.

One team owns the setup

The implementation team configures the ERP and the Bealls maps together, with no handoff in between.

Bealls FAQ

Common questions

What brands ask when a Bealls order shows up.

Yes, natively over EDI, as part of the ERP rather than a separate subscription. Purchase orders, acknowledgments, ASNs and invoices move between Bealls and the same order and inventory record that runs your other retail accounts, with GS1-128 labels and the ASN generated from the same scan that packed the carton.

Same company, different banners. Bealls Inc. of Bradenton, Florida operates both: Bealls Florida is the original department store chain, 68 stores at the 2023 rebrand, all in Florida, while bealls, lower case, is the off-price chain formed when Bealls Outlet and Burkes Outlet merged under one name, roughly 600 stores. Same parent, different buying models, and a vendor can sell both at once.

It was a different, unrelated company. The Texas Bealls belonged to Stage Stores of Houston, which filed Chapter 11 in May 2020 and liquidated, closing Bealls, Palais Royal, Peebles, Goody's and Gordmans. In October 2020 Bealls Inc. of Florida bought Stage Stores' intellectual property, including nationwide rights to the Bealls name, plus a Texas distribution center, for a reported $7 million. So the name survived, but every current Bealls relationship is with the Florida company.

Because of the name clash. Until the 2020 purchase, the Florida company held rights to the Bealls name only in Florida, Georgia and Arizona, so its off-price stores everywhere else traded as Burkes Outlet. Once it owned the name nationwide, the workaround became unnecessary, and in 2023 every Burkes Outlet and Bealls Outlet was rebranded as bealls.

Published Bealls EDI partner listings mark the 850 purchase order, the 810 invoice and the 997 functional acknowledgment as the required core, with the 856 advance ship notice, 855 acknowledgment, 860 purchase order change, 864 text message and 820 remittance advice in the supported set, plus GS1-128 carton labels. Your vendor guide decides the specifics for your program, so confirm against it rather than against any list, including this one.

It sits in the supported set rather than the published required core, but treat that carefully: distribution center receiving in both off-price and department store retail generally expects an ASN with GS1-128 carton labels, and skipping it means problems get discovered at the dock instead of before shipping. Get the requirement for your specific program in writing, and if the ASN is in it, generate it from scanned cartons rather than from the order.

Yes. Bealls Inc. was founded in 1915 by Robert M. Beall Sr. in Bradenton, Florida, and has remained family owned through three generations. It is one of the larger private, family held retailers in the country, with more than 650 stores across the bealls, Bealls Florida, Home Centric and Rugged Earth Outfitters banners.

Bealls Inc.'s home decor concept, launched in May 2018. It runs as standalone stores and as departments inside bealls locations. For a vendor it matters because a Bealls Inc. relationship can extend beyond apparel into home categories, on the same corporate EDI relationship.

They are programs of the same parent company, and how the traffic is split is defined during onboarding with Bealls. What matters on your side is that both land in one system: in AIMS360 the orders arrive in the same queue, draw on the same stock record, and each program gets the document set and labeling it requires, so running both is configuration rather than a second project.

Not with AIMS360. The EDI is part of the ERP, so the ASN comes from the same system that scanned the cartons and printed the labels. The alternative, a translator beside the ERP, has to be told what shipped, and that second copy of the truth is what eventually disagrees with the freight. AIMS360 also charges no per document or per kilocharacter fees of its own.

Yes, and most brands who sell Bealls do exactly that. The discipline is inventory segregation: end of season and made-for-outlet goods committed to off-price should be separated, in AIMS360 usually with a virtual warehouse, so an off-price buy never quietly consumes units your full price accounts were promised. Allocation rules then decide deliberately when programs compete.

The certification cycle and your program's specifics drive it more than the software does. What AIMS360 removes is the build: the maps, the GS1-128 labeling and the document flows are configured by the implementation team from patterns that have been through retailer testing before. Ask for a timeline against your actual program during evaluation rather than a generic number.
