Native Target EDI inside AIMS360: 850, 855, 860, 856 ASNs with GS1-128 labels, 810 and 997 for stores, 846 with your warehouse code for Target.com drop ship, and Target Plus orders on the same stock record.

Target EDI Integration

Stores, Target.com drop ship and Target Plus. One AIMS360 inventory record

AIMS360 is a consumer brands ERP with Target EDI built in. One platform runs your inventory by style, color and size and produces every document Target asks for: 850 orders and 860 changes in, 855 acknowledgments, GS1-128 carton labels, 856 ASNs ahead of the in-yard time, 810 invoices and 997s out, plus the 846 stock feed with your warehouse code for Target.com drop ship. Target Plus orders draw on the same record. The connection is managed by our EDI team.

What system manages inventory and does EDI with Target? AIMS360. It runs your inventory and your Target EDI in one platform: native maps for the 850, 855, 860, 856, 810, 870 and 997, GS1-128 carton labels printed from the same shipment record as the ASN, and for Target.com drop ship the TRDS trading partner with the 846 stock feed carrying your Target warehouse code and the carrier tracking number in the ASN. The ASN goes out at shipment close, ahead of the in-yard time Target measures under its Perfect Order Program, and allocation runs against the original 850 at the item level, which is how Target measures fill rate. Target Plus is a marketplace rather than an EDI program, and its orders reach AIMS360 through your connector and draw on the same stock. You do not pair AIMS360 with SPS Commerce, TrueCommerce or another EDI network.

Target EDI Documents

Every document Target exchanges, generated natively

Built from the same ERP records that run your inventory, warehouse and accounting, so the label on the carton, the ASN and the invoice describe the same shipment.

Transaction What it does for Target
EDI 850 purchase order Target transmits the order and AIMS360 imports it as a sales order, validated against your catalog at the item level. The 850 is also the yardstick: Target measures fill rate against the original 850, item by item, so what lands here is what you will be graded on. Store, Target.com drop ship and import POs arrive on the same document with different ship-to, terms and routing.
EDI 855 acknowledgment Returned from the order record so Target knows what you will ship before routing is booked. Suppliers who work with Target report a 24 to 48 hour expectation on it. AIMS360 sends it from the order, with the quantities you actually allocated.
EDI 860 purchase order change Target changes orders by 860 rather than reissuing the 850. AIMS360 applies the change to the open order, which matters because fill rate is adjusted against the revised order, not the original one you already planned around.
EDI 856 ship notice (ASN) Carton-level notice carrying the SSCC-18 from the GS1-128 label. Under the Perfect Order Program Target introduced in May 2025, an error-free 856 has to be received before the in-yard date and time of the delivery trailer, for 100 percent of POs. AIMS360 sends it at shipment close, which is hours or days ahead of the yard.
EDI 810 invoice Sent after the ASN, one per PO, matching the shipment. On Target.com drop ship the 810 is optional in the AIMS360 setup, because some vendors invoice Target another way. AIMS360 produces it off the same shipment record either way.
EDI 846 inventory Drop ship only. Target.com wants a stock feed, and it wants your Target warehouse code inside it. There is no field for that code in a standard 846, so it is set once in the trading partner map. Target issues the code on request to its drop ship team.
EDI 870 order status How you tell Target about changes on your side before the truck moves. Suppliers report that Target uses the 860 and 870 to adjust the fill rate measurement, so a documented cancellation is treated differently from a short ship nobody explained.
EDI 997 acknowledgment Both directions on every document. AIMS360 generates the outbound 997 on receipt, so the technical acknowledgment never waits on the business handling of the order.

Vendor Requirements

What Target actually requires from a vendor

Target keeps its vendor manual, its EDI specifications and its compliance schedule inside Partners Online, behind a supplier login. Unlike Zappos or DSW, there is no public PDF to quote. The rules below are the ones consistently reported by the EDI networks and 3PLs that serve Target suppliers as of mid 2026, and our own Target.com setup documentation. Treat them as orientation, and confirm every number in Partners Online before you plan a shipment around it.

Requirement What Target expects, as reported
ASN availability An error-free 856 received before the in-yard date and time of the delivery trailer, for 100 percent of purchase orders. This is one of the three Perfect Order Program metrics measured from May 2025, at 75 cents per carton with a $100 minimum. Units received with no ASN available at all were reported at 3 percent of cost under the August 2024 update.
ASN accuracy The second Perfect Order metric. Shipment accuracy covers the bill of lading, its format and where it is placed. Item accuracy covers case pack, barcode and product details matching the purchase order. Same 75 cents per carton, same $100 minimum.
Physical barcode accuracy The third metric: every carton received at the DC carries a legible, scannable barcode. Target accepts an SSCC-18 in GS1-128, a GTIN-14 in ITF-14, or a UPC, depending on how the shipment is configured. Same fee structure.
Fill rate Ship at least 95 percent of the items on the original 850, measured at the item level, under the on-time fill rate policy Target reverted to in August 2024. The 860 and 870 adjust the measurement, so a change Target sent or a status you reported counts. A short ship nobody documented does not.
Delivery window Arrival based, not ship based. Suppliers report that freight to a non-perishable regional distribution center may arrive no more than one day before the start of the ship window and no more than one day after its end, and that early is treated the same as late. On-time misses were reported at a $150 minimum.
Routing Collect freight is routed through Target's own tools in Partners Online. Suppliers report a cutoff of 11:00 am Central two business days before pickup for routing entries, and that the pickup date has to fall inside the assigned ship window. Prepaid suppliers book their own carrier and own the arrival date.
Carton label Placed right of center on the longest vertical face of the carton, at least 1.25 inches from the bottom edge, with cartons under six inches tall labeled on top. Never across a seam, never under tape. A label approval before the first shipment is part of onboarding.
Cartons and pallets Tape or glue only, no bands, no staples. Standard 40 by 48 GMA class 1 pallets, sorted by DC, PO and item. Inner packs no larger than 20 by 13 by 13 inches and no heavier than 60 pounds. Quiet zones on barcodes at least five times the width of the narrowest bar.
Partners Online The portal where the PO, the vendor manual, the Supplier Performance Management Dashboard and the dispute tool live. Suppliers report dispute windows of 18 months for prepaid and 9 months for collect from the ship date, filed through Synergy in Partners Online. The scorecard is the same place Target decides who gets the next buy.
Target.com drop ship Trading partner TRDS in AIMS360. 850 in, 856 and optional 810 out, plus an 846 carrying your Target warehouse code. Freight moves on Target's UPS or FedEx account, the carrier tracking number rides in the bill of lading field of the ASN, and every order ships with the Target drop ship packing slip. Ship methods come across as Target's own codes, DS, G2, ND, NS, PO, SC and SS, mapped to your carrier services.
Target Plus Not EDI. Target Plus is an invitation-only marketplace where you set the retail price, Target takes a referral fee reported at 5 to 15 percent by category, and orders reach you through an API or an approved connector. Target expects fulfillment within 24 hours and delivery within five business days, from a US address with a US bank account.
Three numbers sit under all of this. 100 percent of POs with an error-free ASN before the trailer is in the yard. 95 percent of the items on the original 850 shipped. Plus or minus one day on arrival. Target grades all three on the Supplier Performance Management Dashboard, and the ASN and barcode metrics are charged per carton with a $100 floor. Every one of those metrics is a document or a label that AIMS360 generates from the order or the shipment, which is the point of running EDI inside the ERP rather than beside it.

Sources for the figures above: SPS Commerce's supplier community summaries of Target's August 2024 on-time fill rate update and May 2025 Perfect Order Program, the 2026 Target compliance guides published by Distribution Alternatives and WarehouseQuote, Productiv's summary of Target's domestic shipment preparation rules, and the Target.com drop ship setup documentation our EDI team maintains. Target revises its policy in Partners Online without a public changelog, so treat every number as a starting point.

Target EDI Workflow

From purchase order to paid invoice

One loop, one system, and a scorecard that grades the original order.

Step What happens
1. Order arrives The 850 lands and becomes a sales order, validated against your catalog at the item level, with the ship-to, terms and program read off the order. An 860 later in the window is applied to the same order.
2. Acknowledge The 997 goes back on receipt. The 855 goes back from the order record with the quantities you allocated, so Target knows what is coming before routing is booked.
3. Allocate to the original 850 Allocation runs against the whole PO at the item level, because that is how Target measures fill rate. If something cannot ship, the 870 tells Target before the truck moves rather than after the scorecard posts.
4. Routing Collect freight is entered in Target's routing tool inside Partners Online before the cutoff, with a pickup date inside the ship window. Prepaid freight is booked on your carrier against the arrival window, not the ship date.
5. Pick, pack, ship The built-in warehouse module packs to the case pack on the PO and prints one GS1-128 label per carton from the shipment record, placed to spec, with the SSCC-18 that will appear on the ASN.
6. Bill of lading Printed from the same shipment, in the format Target checks under ASN accuracy. On drop ship, the carrier tracking number takes the place of the BOL number.
7. ASN The 856 transmits at shipment close, carton by carton with the SSCC-18s, hours before the in-yard date rather than minutes.
8. Invoice The 810 goes out after the ASN, one per PO, matching the shipment. On drop ship it is optional, depending on how you invoice Target.

Native vs Bolted On

Do you need SPS Commerce or TrueCommerce for Target?

Short answer, no. Per-carton accuracy fees are the strongest argument for one shipment record.

Native to the ERP

AIMS360

The GS1-128 label, the ASN and the invoice come off one shipment record, and the ASN goes out when the shipment closes. When Target scans a carton in the DC, the SSCC on the box and the SSCC in the file were never two pieces of data, which is what ASN accuracy is actually measuring.

Our EDI team runs the connection, the maps and the test cycle with Target, and has since our Target.com drop ship documentation was first written in 2015.

Bolted on

A separate EDI provider

Put an EDI network in front of an ERP with no native EDI and the ASN is only as accurate as the last sync between them. Under a per-carton accuracy fee, every mismatch between what the warehouse packed and what the network sent has a price.

And when the drop ship 846 needs a warehouse code the ERP has no field for, somebody has to own the map.

Target Programs

Stores, drop ship, Target Plus and import

Four ways a Target order can reach you, and the one distinction that trips brands up.

Program 01

Target stores

The bulk business. Purchase orders through Partners Online, freight into one of Target's regional distribution centers, collect on Target's routing or prepaid on yours, an arrival window of plus or minus a day, and the Perfect Order and fill rate metrics on every PO. Target runs more than 2,000 stores, so this is where the volume is.

Program 02

Target.com drop ship

Target sells it, you ship it to the guest. Trading partner TRDS: 850 in, 856 out with the tracking number as the BOL, 810 if you invoice by EDI, and an 846 stock feed carrying your Target warehouse code. Target pays the freight on its own UPS or FedEx account, and the box carries the Target packing slip. Wholesale terms, Target sets the retail.

Program 03

Target Plus

Target's invitation-only marketplace, open since 2019 and listing more than 1,500 brands. You own the price and the inventory, Target takes a referral fee, and you ship within 24 hours for delivery inside five business days. No EDI. Orders arrive through an approved connector, so if your listing runs through Shopify Marketplace Connect or the ChannelAdvisor side of Rithum, they land in AIMS360 the way those orders always do.

Program 04

Target import

Product Target sources overseas and takes possession of at origin. Same 850, different terms and routing, with the carton label and ASN still on you and Target's consolidator at the other end. The import manual sits in Partners Online with the rest, so send it to us before you commit to a first ship date.

One thing to keep straight: drop ship and Target Plus look identical to the shopper and are opposites to you. On drop ship Target is the merchant, sends a PO, sets retail and pays wholesale. On Target Plus you are the merchant, set retail, and pay Target a fee. AIMS360 treats them as two customers drawing on one stock record, and allocation decides which one gets the last unit.

One Stock Record

Three Target programs, one stock record

Target grades every PO on the original 850 at the item level, so the useful number is not what you have in total, it is what you can allocate to one PO in full and still cover the drop ship feed you sent last night.

Situation What AIMS360 does
Stores and drop ship on one pool Bulk allocations and the Target.com 846 draw from the same stock record. AIMS360 sends the 846 off what is actually available after bulk commitments, so drop ship orders do not arrive for units a store PO already owns.
A 95 percent fill rate target Allocation runs against the whole PO at the item level and shows the fill rate before the 855 goes out. Anything you cannot ship goes back as an 870 so the measurement is adjusted rather than missed.
Target Plus on the side Marketplace orders come in through the connector and hit the same availability. The order queue does not care which Target program an order belongs to, and neither does the warehouse.
More than one warehouse Availability rolls up across locations, and the shipment carries the location it actually leaves from, which is the address on the routing entry.
A 3PL holding stock Integrated 3PL locations feed the same record, so the carton count on the routing entry is real and the ASN describes cartons that exist.
Selling the other big boxes The same pool feeds Target, Walmart, Kohl's, Costco and the rest without a separate inventory file per retailer. Each is its own trading partner with its own rules, and AIMS360 treats them that way.

Managed Onboarding

We onboard you to Target, then keep you compliant

Our EDI team builds the connection and tests it with Target. You supply the vendor number, Partners Online access and the current vendor manual, because that is where Target keeps it.

Stage What we do
Before kickoff Pull the current vendor manual, EDI specs and compliance policy from Partners Online, confirm which programs you are approved for, and confirm the in-yard, fill rate and arrival rules that apply to your DCs.
Setup Build the customer account with the DC cross reference, packing rules to the case pack, the GS1-128 label with SSCC-18, FOB, carrier SCACs and Target's ship method codes. For drop ship, the TRDS partner, the warehouse code in the 846 map, the packing slip and the return codes from the manual.
Label proof Get the carton label approved before the first shipment. Barcode accuracy is charged per carton, and a label that scans is the cheapest fix on the whole scorecard.
Testing Test the 850, 855, 856, 810 and 997 end to end with Target, and the 846 with the drop ship team, including a mixed shipment and a partial with an 870.
Go live Watch the first PO from routing entry to ASN to invoice, then read the first Supplier Performance Management Dashboard posting with you.
After Track policy changes. Target moved fill rate in August 2024 and added the Perfect Order Program in May 2025 without a public changelog, and the maps and the packing rules move with them.

We keep emergency EDI support running around the clock, because an ASN that has to beat a trailer into the yard is not a next business day problem.

Target EDI FAQ

Target EDI questions, answered

The in-yard ASN, the fill rate on the original 850, drop ship versus Target Plus, and what lives in Partners Online.

AIMS360. It is a consumer brands ERP with Target EDI built in: the 850 purchase order and 860 change in, the 855 acknowledgment, 856 ship notice with GS1-128 carton labels and 810 invoice out, the 870 for status, 997 acknowledgments both directions, and the 846 stock feed with your warehouse code for Target.com drop ship. Inventory, warehouse and EDI are one system, so the ASN is generated from the shipment your warehouse just closed. Our own EDI team runs the connection.

For the store business, suppliers consistently report the 850 purchase order, 856 ship notice, 810 invoice and 997 acknowledgment as the core set, with the 855 acknowledgment, 860 change and 870 status alongside. Target.com drop ship adds the 846 inventory feed. Target Plus does not use EDI at all. The authoritative list and the mapping guides are inside Partners Online.

Before the delivery trailer's in-yard date and time, error free, on 100 percent of purchase orders. That is the ASN availability metric of the Perfect Order Program Target began measuring in May 2025, reported at 75 cents per carton with a $100 minimum. AIMS360 sends the 856 at shipment close, which puts it hours or days ahead of the yard rather than minutes.

A set of three supply chain metrics Target began measuring on purchase orders from May 2025: ASN availability, ASN accuracy and physical barcode accuracy, each with a 100 percent goal and each reported at 75 cents per carton with a $100 minimum. Accuracy covers the bill of lading and its placement, and the case pack, barcode and product details matching the PO. Target publishes the policy in Partners Online.

Suppliers report a 95 percent fill rate on the items of the original 850, measured at the item level, under the on-time fill rate policy Target reverted to in August 2024. Changes Target sends on an 860 and status you report on an 870 adjust the measurement. AIMS360 allocates the whole PO at item level and shows the fill rate before the 855 leaves.

Target's supplier portal. It is where purchase orders, the vendor manual, EDI specifications, the routing tools for collect freight, the Supplier Performance Management Dashboard and the chargeback dispute tool all live. Target does not publish those documents on the open web, so your Partners Online login is the source of truth for every rule on this page.

Who the merchant is. On Target.com drop ship Target sends you a purchase order, sets the retail price and pays you wholesale, and you ship the box to the guest on Target's carrier account. On Target Plus you are the seller: you set the price, own the inventory and the fulfillment, and pay Target a referral fee reported at 5 to 15 percent. The shopper sees the same thing. Your ERP sees two different customers.

No. Target Plus is an invitation-only marketplace that connects through an API and approved integration partners rather than X12 documents. Orders reach AIMS360 through the connector you list with, for example Shopify Marketplace Connect or the ChannelAdvisor side of Rithum, and draw on the same inventory record as your store and drop ship business.

In AIMS360 the trading partner is TRDS. The 850 comes in, the 856 goes out with the UPS or FedEx tracking number in the bill of lading field, the 810 goes out if you invoice by EDI, and an 846 inventory feed goes out carrying your Target warehouse code, which Target issues through its drop ship team. Freight is collect on Target's carrier account, orders ship with the Target packing slip, and Target's ship method codes, DS, G2, ND, NS, PO, SC and SS, map to your carrier services.

A GS1-128 label carrying the SSCC-18 that appears on the ASN, placed right of center on the longest vertical face of the carton at least 1.25 inches from the bottom, or on top for cartons under six inches tall, never over a seam or under tape. Target also accepts GTIN-14 in ITF-14 or a UPC depending on the shipment configuration, and requires quiet zones of at least five times the narrowest bar. A label approval comes before the first shipment.

No. The Target maps are native to AIMS360 and managed by our EDI team, for the store business and for Target.com drop ship. With ASN and barcode accuracy charged per carton, the case for generating the label and the ASN from one shipment record is stronger at Target than almost anywhere else.

Collect suppliers enter shipments in Target's routing tool inside Partners Online, with a reported cutoff of 11:00 am Central two business days before pickup and a pickup date inside the assigned ship window. Prepaid suppliers book their own carrier and are measured on arrival, which has to land within a day either side of the window. Both are scored on the same dashboard.

Through Synergy, the dispute tool inside Partners Online, with the documentation attached. Suppliers report dispute windows of 18 months from the ship date for prepaid and 9 months for collect. AIMS360 keeps the ASN, the label data, the bill of lading and the invoice on the shipment record, which is the documentation a dispute needs.

We do. The maps belong to us, so a revision is our work rather than a project for your team. Target changed its fill rate policy in August 2024 and introduced the Perfect Order Program in May 2025 without a public changelog, and the ASN, label and packing rules move with each change.
