You need one system that keeps the books in Australian or New Zealand dollars, invoices US accounts in US dollars, trades EDI with US department stores and chains, and runs your home and US Shopify stores from one stock record. Here's how that works for apparel, swimwear, accessories, beauty and other consumer brands in Australia and New Zealand, and what changes when the first US purchase order lands.
One ERP that holds inventory, orders and receivables for every market, with the company kept in AUD or NZD and each US account invoiced in USD. In AIMS360 the home currency is set per company, so an Australian company runs in AUD and a New Zealand company runs in NZD. US customers get US dollar accounts, US dollar prices on the styles they buy and invoices in US dollars, while costs, report totals and ledger postings stay in your home currency.
US retailer purchase orders, advance ship notices and invoices run on built-in EDI with 350+ retailers. Your home Shopify store and a US dollar Shopify store can feed the same company, and stock at a US 3PL is one more warehouse on the same record.
The currency is rarely the hard part. The second rulebook is. A US department store sends orders by EDI, wants an advance ship notice before the cartons arrive, expects a GS1-128 label on every carton and deducts money when any of that is late or wrong, while David Jones, The Iconic and your home stockists keep ordering in AUD. AIMS360, a consumer brands ERP founded in 1984, carries both rulebooks in one order book.
Same styles, same warehouse team, different rules.
| Selling at home (AU and NZ) | Selling to US retailers | How AIMS360 handles it | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Currency | AUD or NZD, your home currency | USD | Home currency set on the company; one currency per customer account |
| Prices | AUD or NZD wholesale and RRP | USD wholesale and suggested retail | Wholesale, suggested retail and portal price per style, color and currency |
| Exchange rate | Not needed | A rate on every order | Retrieved daily or entered manually; the invoice inherits the order's rate and date |
| How orders arrive | Reps, B2B platforms, David Jones and The Iconic EDI | EDI purchase orders, plus rep and platform orders | One order book; EDI built in for 350+ retailers |
| Shipping paperwork | Retailer requirements, GS1-128 SSCC labels | ASN before delivery, GS1-128 labels, routing guides | ASNs, label printing and chargeback tracking on the order record |
| Tax on wholesale invoices | Australian GST or New Zealand GST | As your accountant advises | Tax sheets by region, custom sheets by style or color |
| Getting paid | AUD or NZD receivables | USD receivables on terms, sometimes factored | Payment at the invoice rate; AR in both currencies; gain and loss reports |
| Direct to consumer | AUD or NZD Shopify store | USD Shopify store, often shipped from a US 3PL | Several Shopify stores, each in its own currency, on one stock record |
| Accounting | Xero or QuickBooks | Same ledger, in your home currency | Xero and QuickBooks sync two ways |
None of it needs a second company file.
Multi-currency has been live on the selling side of AIMS360 since Q1 2020. You set the home currency on the company, AUD in Australia or NZD in New Zealand, then activate the currencies you sell in.
Costs, report totals and ledger postings stay in AUD or NZD. Mechanics are on the multi-currency and divisions page. JOOR receives your active currencies automatically; on NuORDER you switch them on in the NuORDER tab.
US department stores and chains run their suppliers through EDI and a vendor compliance manual. This is the part of an apparel ERP a US retailer tests first. What they expect:
EDI is built into AIMS360 for 350+ retailers, including Nordstrom and Macy's. It's billed as a flat monthly fee per retailer with unlimited transactions and no kilocharacter, per-document or VAN fees, so a big US season doesn't raise the EDI bill. AIMS360 has dedicated apparel EDI specialists on staff. Start with the EDI retailer list or how EDI works in AIMS360.
Ship US wholesale from home or from a US 3PL. The 3PL gets the order by EDI or API, the shipment comes back, and the ASN and invoice go out from the same record.
Low-value parcels from Australia and New Zealand used to reach US customers under duty-free de minimis treatment. US Customs and Border Protection suspended that treatment for goods from all countries from August 29, 2025 (CBP guidance, CSMS # 66065494), so those shipments now go through an entry with duties, taxes and fees paid. Ask your customs broker or carrier how that applies to your parcels; this page isn't customs or tax advice.
Some brands hold stock at a US 3PL and ship US orders domestically. In AIMS360 that 3PL is one more warehouse on the same stock record. More than 30 warehouses have a prebuilt connection, built in house and maintained by AIMS360. See 3PL integrations and the 3PL fulfillment guide.
Each brand can run several Shopify stores, each in its own currency: an AUD store, an NZD store if you have one and a USD store, all feeding one AIMS360 company. Each Shopify location maps to an AIMS360 warehouse, so the USD store sells US 3PL stock while the AUD store sells stock at home, and every order lands in one order book beside wholesale and EDI.
When a US department store order and a USD checkout want the same last units, hold the retailer's commitment in a virtual warehouse the USD store never sees. More on the Shopify integration page.
The US side doesn't replace the home side. AIMS360 has EDI integrations with two Australian retailers on the same order book as your US accounts.
Bulk and dropship. Purchase orders come in; advance ship notices, invoices and inventory feeds go back, with GS1-128 SSCC carton labels on your GS1 Australia company prefix. See David Jones EDI.
Bulk EDI into its fulfillment center and dropship EDI: 850 purchase orders, 855 acknowledgments, 856 ASNs with GS1-128 SSCC labels, 810 invoices and 846 inventory advice. See The Iconic EDI.
Units allocated to a David Jones order aren't also offered to a US buyer, and the AUD invoice to The Iconic sits in the same receivables as a USD invoice to a US chain.
Tax on wholesale invoices comes from tax sheets. A default sheet holds rates by region and can be edited, and custom sheets override rates for specific styles or colors. Tax applies to merchandise less discounts, plus freight, plus service items such as handling or gift wrap. Tax sheets work for any country, so Australian GST and New Zealand GST apply the same way, at rates you and your accountant set.
The ATO describes GST as a broad-based tax on most goods, services and other items sold or consumed in Australia (ATO: goods and services tax). Inland Revenue describes New Zealand GST as a tax added to the price of most goods and services, including imports (IRD: what GST is). Whether an invoice to a US customer carries GST is your accountant's call. Shopify and other integrated or imported orders keep the taxes calculated in those systems.
Xero is common among Australian and New Zealand brands. It syncs two ways with AIMS360, as do QuickBooks Online, Desktop and Enterprise, and Sage and NetSuite also connect. AIMS360 runs orders, inventory and receivables, and the accounting system keeps the ledger and statements. If you use QuickBooks, multi-currency has to be switched on in QuickBooks as well. See accounting integrations and accounting in AIMS360.
US wholesale runs on terms, and many apparel brands factor those receivables. The factoring workflow is built into AIMS360, with the capital and terms coming from your factor, and a factor buying USD invoices is set up in USD. See factoring and financing.
AIMS360 is an MCP connector, so your team asks ChatGPT, Claude or Grok, the AI they already use, about AIMS360 data in plain English, at any hour on either side of the Pacific. For example:
It isn't read-only: creating and updating orders and customers from the chat is live. See AIMS360 with Claude, ChatGPT and Grok.
Yes. An Australian company runs in AUD, and each customer account carries one currency, so US accounts are USD accounts with USD prices on the styles they buy. Invoices inherit the order's rate, payments are taken in USD at the invoice rate by default, and customer AR shows USD and AUD balances.
Yes. A New Zealand company runs in NZD, with Australian accounts in AUD and US accounts in USD, each priced in its own currency on the style. Tax sheets apply New Zealand GST on wholesale invoices, and gain and loss reporting shows what currency moves did between invoice and payment.
Most large US department stores and chains trade by EDI: purchase orders in, advance ship notices and invoices out, GS1-128 labels on every carton and chargebacks when the rules are missed. AIMS360 has EDI built in for 350+ retailers, billed as a flat monthly fee per retailer with unlimited transactions.
The US suspended duty-free de minimis treatment for goods from all countries from August 29, 2025, so low-value parcels to US customers no longer enter duty free under that rule. Your customs broker or carrier can tell you how your shipments are entered. If you hold stock at a US 3PL, AIMS360 treats it as one more warehouse.
See 3PL integrations.
Yes. Each brand can run several Shopify stores, each in its own currency, so an AUD store and a USD store both feed the same AIMS360 company and sell from the warehouses you choose.

Through tax sheets: a default sheet holds rates by region, and custom sheets override them for specific styles or colors. You and your accountant set and confirm the rates, and orders from Shopify and other integrated channels keep the taxes calculated there.
Yes. Xero syncs two ways with AIMS360, as do QuickBooks Online, Desktop and Enterprise, so AIMS360 runs orders, inventory and receivables while Xero keeps the ledger.
Yes. AIMS360 is an MCP connector, so your team asks ChatGPT, Claude or Grok about AIMS360 data in plain English, such as what a US retailer ordered this month and what it owes in USD. Creating and updating orders and customers from the chat is live too.
