You need one system that keeps your books in Canadian dollars, invoices US accounts in US dollars, puts GST, HST, PST or QST on the right invoices, and runs retailer EDI on both sides of the border from one inventory. This page covers Canadian brands, Canadian distributors and Canadian manufacturers selling apparel, footwear, accessories and other consumer products at home and into the US, plus US brands opening Canadian accounts.
One ERP that keeps your company in CAD, sells to US accounts in USD, applies Canadian sales tax by province, and runs retailer EDI and warehouse work from one inventory record. In AIMS360 a Canadian company's home currency is CAD, each customer account carries one currency, and tax sheets apply GST, HST, PST and QST to your invoices.
EDI is built in for 350+ retailers, including Walmart Canada, Costco Canada and TJX Canada, at a flat monthly fee per retailer. QuickBooks and Xero sync two ways, and your team can ask ChatGPT, Claude or Grok about orders and receivables in either currency.
The usual starting point is three records that don't agree: a US dollar spreadsheet, a Canadian dollar accounting file and a portal login per retailer. AIMS360 is a consumer brands ERP that puts the currency on the account, the tax on the sheet and the retailer documents on the shipment, whether you design and import your own line, distribute other brands, or cut and sew in Canada.
Home currency is set per company, so a Canadian company runs in CAD, with costs, report totals and ledger postings in Canadian dollars. Multi-currency, live in AIMS360 since 2020, lets the same company price, book, invoice and collect in USD.
| Piece | How a US dollar sale runs in a CAD company |
|---|---|
| Customer account | One currency per account. A retailer buying in USD and in CAD gets two accounts. The currency locks once orders or invoices exist |
| Prices | USD wholesale, suggested retail and portal prices per style and color. The order takes the USD price, not a conversion of the CAD one |
| Exchange rate | Retrieved daily or fixed by you, with revaluation. The order carries that day's rate |
| Invoice and payment | The invoice inherits the order's rate and date. Payment is taken in USD at the invoice rate by default |
| Receivables | Customer AR shows each balance in USD and in CAD, with realized and unrealized gain and loss reports |
| Reps and factors | Each rep carries the currency they're paid in. A factor working both currencies is usually two factor records |
Each brand can run more than one Shopify store, each in its own currency, so a CAD store and a USD store can both feed one CAD company. JOOR receives your active currencies automatically, and NuORDER takes them once you switch them on in its tab. The full mechanics are on multi-currency and divisions.
Canadian sales tax follows the goods. Under the CRA's place of supply rules, a sale of goods is made in the province the goods are delivered or sent to, and that province decides whether HST applies or GST alone. Revenu Québec says QST is calculated on the selling price excluding GST. British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Manitoba add their own PST, and the CRA's GST/HST calculator sends you to each province for those rules.
| Tax | Where it applies, per the official source | How AIMS360 applies it |
|---|---|---|
| GST | Provinces outside the HST: Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Quebec, Saskatchewan and the three territories (CRA) | A GST rate per province or territory on the default tax sheet |
| HST | Participating provinces: Ontario, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island (CRA) | An HST rate per participating province on the default sheet |
| PST | British Columbia, Manitoba and Saskatchewan, alongside GST, with rules set by each province (CRA calculator) | A PST rate next to GST, plus custom sheets for styles taxed differently |
| QST | Quebec, alongside GST, on the price excluding GST. Revenu Québec administers both there | A QST rate next to GST for Quebec |
Rates, exemptions and resale rules change, so confirm each rate with your accountant and on the CRA calculator. This page isn't tax advice.
A Canadian retail program is usually its own vendor relationship, with its own vendor number, guide, ship-to points and CAD invoices. AIMS360 runs each one as its own trading partner against the same style, color and size inventory as your US accounts.
| Retailer | The Canadian program |
|---|---|
| Walmart Canada | A separate operating company with its own vendor agreement, distribution network and CAD invoicing. AIMS360 runs live Walmart Canada programs |
| Costco Canada | Costco Wholesale Canada Ltd, with its own buying offices and Vendor ID. Costco US, Canada and Mexico run on one AIMS360 platform |
| Cabela's Canada | Its own EDI outline, service levels and the 857 notice on cross-border freight. The Canadian stores now trade as Bass Pro Shops, so confirm the setup with your buyer |
| FGL Sports | Canadian Tire Corporation's sporting goods business, behind Sport Chek. See also FGL Sports, SportChek and Mark's |
| Foot Locker | Foot Locker Canada and Champs Sports Canada are divisions 76 and 77 of one trading partner, and AIMS360 files each 850 to the matching account |
| TJX Canada | Winners, HomeSense and Marshalls Canada, a separate TJX segment with its own distribution network |
FGL Sports, formerly The Forzani Group, runs Sport Chek for Canadian Tire, per Canadian Tire's release.
The documents are the familiar X12 set: 850 purchase orders in, 855 acknowledgments, 856 ASNs with GS1-128 carton labels and 810 invoices out. What changes is the vendor ID, the ship-to points and the currency. Start with all EDI retailers.
A US department store, sporting goods chain or off-price buyer gives a Canadian brand the same rulebook as a US brand. AIMS360 has built-in EDI for 350+ retailers, invoices those accounts in USD, and builds each document from the shipment your team packed.
CUSMA, called USMCA in the US, entered into force on July 1, 2020, replacing NAFTA, according to the Canada Border Services Agency. For goods entering Canada, preferential tariff treatment is claimed with a valid certification of origin, which the exporter, producer or importer can complete. Whether a style qualifies depends on the rules of origin for that product, so your customs broker makes the call, in both directions.
Shipping direct to consumers in the US? The US suspended duty-free de minimis treatment for shipments from every country starting August 29, 2025, per the presidential action, so low-value parcels aren't automatically duty-free. AIMS360 keeps country of origin and HS codes on the style, where customs forms and your 3PL can use them.
Carriers and warehouses plug into the same order and inventory record.
| Partner | What it does with AIMS360 |
|---|---|
| Canada Post | Rates, labels, manifests, pickups and tracking in AIMS360, with tracking posted to orders, Shopify and 856 ASNs. CN22, CN23 and CP72 customs forms use the style's HS code and country of origin |
| UPS and FedEx | Labels with current rates. FedEx quotes and labels run through its shipping API from Scan and Pack |
| DHL | Rates and labels from AIMS360 |
| GlobalPost | Discounted international parcel shipping |
| A52 Fulfillment | A cross-border 3PL in Surrey, British Columbia, connected directly. The 832 catalog carries price, country of origin and HTS code; 940 and 943 files go out, 945 and 944 files come back |
| Manitoulin Group | Freight across Canada since 1953: LTL and specialized ground, international forwarding, customs brokerage and warehousing |
A 3PL on either side of the border is another warehouse in AIMS360, so you can run more than one, and stock committed to a Canadian program can sit in its own virtual warehouse where a US program can't sell it. More than 30 warehouses have a prebuilt connection, built and maintained in house by AIMS360. See 3PL integrations and the 3PL fulfillment guide.
Two more shapes run on the same platform, with the same currency, tax and EDI underneath.
You hold other brands' lines and sell them to Canadian retailers. Orders by size run from reps, portals and EDI land in one order book, each account prices from its own tier, the factor clears credit before anything ships, and the invoice carries tax from the tax sheet.
You cut and sew in Canada, in your own shop or through contractors. The bill of materials sits on the style, costing rolls up from it, cut tickets issue fabric from specific rolls and lots, and work in process follows each contractor until finished goods land in inventory.
Comparing apparel ERP options? Ask to see a size-run order, a factor approval and a Canadian tax line on one screen. More on ERP for wholesale distributors, ERP for apparel manufacturers and production tracking.
Importing finished goods? Vendor purchase orders carry FOB and landed cost from the style master, so freight, duty and brokerage sit in each unit's cost. See ERP for apparel importers and the landed cost and customs documentation guide.
For a US company it runs the other way. Home currency stays USD, and CAD goes on the accounts and prices that need it.
Many US brands ship Canadian retail as nonresident importers through a customs broker, as our Walmart Canada page explains. Settle GST or HST registration, duties and clearance with your broker and accountant. AIMS360 carries the orders, documents, labels and inventory either way.
That's the job of fashion ERP software for a brand on both sides of the border: one record, two markets.
AIMS360 owns inventory, orders and receivables, and your accounting system gets the postings. QuickBooks Online, Desktop and Enterprise and Xero sync two ways, and Sage and NetSuite also connect. On QuickBooks, multi-currency has to be enabled in QuickBooks too, and payments land per currency once each currency is mapped. See accounting integrations and the QuickBooks integration.
AIMS360 is an MCP connector, so your team asks ChatGPT, Claude or Grok about AIMS360 data in plain English, in the AI it already uses:
